Staff Picks: Our Favorite Socks for Summer

Summer in Vermont – whether you bounce around barefoot or in your hottest Teva’s – is often considered a sock-less season. But at our Mill, we know better than to assume people are strictly shoes-off. In fact, we like keeping ours on with moisture-wicking, thermoregulating, made in USA socks (that are guaranteed for life) underfoot.

It’s a thing we do because we value fresh feet. And, like you, we’re curious which Darn Tough socks offer the best fit for summer. To answer that, we turned to our experts. Here's some of our favorite socks for summer...

Kaitlyn S.

If you’re lucky enough to hike in Hawaii, you might find Kaitlyn’s tracks atop the island’s tallest volcano. She voyaged across the Pacific last summer to saunter up the peak’s smoldering summit trail – a high she’s still coming down from.

But luck isn’t something Kaitlyn needs to go big. Nor does she want it – unless it’s on her feet. Our Lucky Lady No Show sock takes care of that. And when it comes to keeping her feet happy, it’s nice knowing that a little luck can go such a long way.

Stephen King

“Tell ‘em you saw the King.” Like the famed New England novelist, our Stephen King is also a master of his craft. A 1st Shift Boarder at Nantanna, King has one of the hardest hitting jobs at Darn Tough – and he knows it.

The challenge is what gets him fired up, he says, to show up and work hard every day. And like the herb-happy skunk on his favorite Animal Haus sock, he too loves relaxing, playing cornhole, and living life in Vermont (for obvious reasons). To the King, we say, ‘thankee sai.’

Myrissa F.

The best parties in life are out of sight. Virtually invisible – like a cool summer breeze. Myrissa gets this because, she too, prefers things that are hidden. Like her favorite flowers, the best things in life are rooted in secrecy.

Myrissa's Pick: Garden Party No Show Hidden

Myrissa is Darn Tough’s flower girl – her ink, the bouquets on her desk, even her favorite socks are budding at the seams with flora. But it’s her fortitude that makes Myrissa stand tall. Her compassion and devotion as a veteran 1st Shift Quality Controller is what feeds her perennial bloom. Sniff hard enough and you can smell it.

Jen F.

If anyone can survive the sweltering heat this summer, it’s Jen Farnham. She’s a skilled glassblower – and while others complain about the temperature – Farnham feels right at home with her hands in the fire.

When she’s not making custom glass-art for Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Farnham can be found at our Mill handling materials. Although her favored artform is fiery by nature, Farnham knows how to keep her feet cool – even around the kiln. The secret, she says, is her Element socks, which breathe well and regulate heat.

Storm L.

Storm’s a-brewin’ in Northfield, VT. The forecast – dark with a dash of Espresso. But instead of cold brew and cloudy skies, this Storm prefers hot coffee and ultralight running socks.

Storm Legacy – you heard that name right – is a 2nd Shift Quality Control Auditor at Nantanna. He’s the type of guy who drives two hours to buy Death Wish Coffee, and because he loves his Jeep. It’s a thing. In the summer he wears our Men's wool running socks for extra breathability and all-day comfort.
